Powder Brows Vs Microblading

Updated: Mar 14, 2021

Remember those popular kids in high school? When they confidently strutted down the hall Mean Girls style? Whatever they did was instantly the THING. It was what we all started doing. Even when it wasn’t a great idea...

(I’m talking about you skirts over pants. Scarily skirts over pants are actually making a comeback. Has fashion just run out of ideas?!)

Anyway back to the cool kids. They made their things seem like the only choice. It took some ovaries to do the unpopular thing. But often that was the better choice.

it's a popularity contest

Microblading is the popular kid. Type in ‘eyebrow tattoo’ and chances are you’ll only find pictures and stories about microblading, also known as feathering. Microblading became so trendy that it suddenly was the only choice when it came to eyebrow tattooing.

But is it the best choice?

trendy doesn't mean better

Alot of people don’t know the downsides of microblading. That’s because it’s not really talked about. Like I said, it’s hard to knock something that’s popular. In a nutshell, microblading doesn’t last, it can turn pink AND it leads to scarring. Definitely not what you had in mind when you were promised your dream brows.

If you want to know more about it read '5 Reasons Why You Don't Want Microblading'.

Like in high school, there’s an unpopular but much better option…

results are what matters

The powder brow is the quiet kid that will always have your back. She’s not the popular kid but she’s a WAY better choice as a bestie. Powder brows last much longer than microblading, will not turn pink and will not lead to scarring.

So if powder brows are so amazing, why has no one heard about them? Two reasons. Like I said, microblading took over the eyebrow tattoo world because it was new. It became trendy. People that didn’t know eyebrow tattooing was even a thing suddenly knew microblading existed.

better Techniques Mean Better Results

Secondly, powder brows have a bad reputation. Due to some horror stories of blocky, painted on brow tattoos of the 80’s and 90’s, if you know about eyebrow tattooing - powder brows wouldn't be top of your list. Things have come a LONG way since then. The newest technique is called Ombre or Soft Powder.

Using a different needle and different technique to old school powder brows, a soft, graduated powdery brow can be created. It looks like you’ve just softly powdered your brows in, not like a tattoo at all.

Look For Healed Work

It’s hard to know what the best choice is sometimes. But trendy doesn’t = best. It just means popular. The most important thing to consider when deciding on an eyebrow tattoo is what it looks like healed. Don’t look at pictures of fresh work because healed work looks very different. And healed work is what you'll actually have on your face!
